The General Assembly of the Baranya County Council held its inaugural meeting, during which it elected László Őri as chairman and Péter Dunai and András Junácski as vice-chairmen for the next five years by a convincing majority.
The newly elected county president thanked the citizens of Baranya for the overwhelming support that the FIDESZ-KDNP coalition’s list received in the local elections held on June 9. László Őri added that, in accordance with the voters’ decision, they intend to implement a program of peace, security, and development in the coming years.
The county’s new-old leader has offered to collaborate with the communities of all settlements in Baranya County—including the county seat, the city of Pécs—in order to promote the region’s economic and social development.
László Őri emphasized that we had long awaited the moment that has now arrived: “that we, the people of Baranya, finally feel that it is our turn,” referring to the major government infrastructure developments which, if implemented, will significantly reduce the region’s isolation.
In his ceremonial speech, the county chairman called the construction of the new Danube bridge at Mohács the investment of the century, but he also highlighted the construction of the M6 highway to the southern border, as well as the preparations for the new highway connecting Pécs and Kaposvár. The goal is for Baranya, our shared home, to become a place in the coming decades where young people do not feel the need to leave, but instead plan their futures here.
