Baranya County boasts an exceptionally high-quality cultural offering, as evidenced by the number of overnight stays.
In 2010, Pécs was the European Capital of Culture, and the major projects undertaken at that time—such as the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter and the Kodály Center—continue to play a defining role in the county to this day.
Among the key players in the cultural scene, the Pécs National Theater, the internationally renowned Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Bóbita Puppet Theater deserve special mention.
In addition to these, the city and Baranya County are home to a host of choirs, theater companies, and a range of nationally renowned and up-and-coming pop music groups.

The main attractions are, on the one hand, Pécs’s early Christian and Ottoman-era monuments and cultural programs, and on the other hand, the Harkány–Siklós–Villány region. Here, thermal spas and water parks, wines, and fine dining draw visitors. The three cities are home to a total of 26 accommodations offering at least three-star service and 40 restaurants.
The most famous event is the Busójárás festival in Mohács, which draws tens of thousands of visitors to the city every year. Other notable events include the Harkány Spa Festival, the Villány Red Wine Festival, the Pécsvárad Bridal Fair, and the Zrínyi Days in Szigetvár. In the county seat, the Pécs National Theater Festival, the Pécs University Days, and the autumn Pécs Days are among the most popular events.
