Despite its geographical location, Baranya County’s international geopolitical role has grown in importance, as it plays an increasingly significant transit role toward Croatia and the Balkans; among these roles, its role in the direction of Bosnia and Herzegovina can be considered significant even at the national level.
The final section of the M6 motorway has reached the Croatian border, the public port in Mohács is under construction, and work is underway on the Danube bridge in Mohács.
The Pécs-Pogány Airport has been included among the airports to be developed by the government, and preparations have begun for the new road section planned between Kaposvár and Szigetvár.
With the ongoing investments in Baranya County, the region can open up toward Serbia and Croatia, and these developments could turn it into “the gateway to the Balkans and an important economic hub.”
The goal is to attract 21st-century investments and technologies that meet the strictest European environmental standards while providing competitive wages for local young people and, in turn, a long-term vision for the future.
In line with this, numerous development projects are currently underway in the county, including the creation and expansion of industrial parks, green and tourism initiatives that strengthen livable communities in Baranya, and, following the energy crisis, investments aimed at energy conservation have received special attention.
