Four ATR aircraft, each capable of carrying 22 tons of cargo, are already stationed at Pécs–Pogány Airport, following a Hungarian airline’s decision to establish its fleet base and maintenance center there. The investment is being funded with the company’s own resources, and plans call for the construction of a new hangar starting in 2026, where ATR42/72 aircraft will be maintained. The development will involve local suppliers, create new jobs, and establish a long-term presence at the airport.
Although there are currently no regular cargo flights departing from Pécs, the aircraft—which are used, among other things, to handle urgent medical supplies and special shipments—are increasing the region’s logistics capacity. The airport’s runway and infrastructure meet the requirements of ATR aircraft, so future expansions will also focus on Pogány. The project could also boost business tax revenues for surrounding municipalities, including Pogány.
Why is it important?
- Pécs's role as a regional air logistics hub is growing
- Local jobs and opportunities for suppliers will be created
- A dedicated maintenance hangar will be built starting in 2026
- A long-term, stable presence at the airport
- There is also the possibility of ATR passenger aircraft being deployed in the future
