A nationwide survey has been launched to identify Hungarian companies that could participate as suppliers in wind power plant developments in the coming years. The initiative was launched by the Pécs-Baranya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and applications are being accepted through September 18, 2026. This opportunity is not limited to energy companies: businesses in the construction, machinery, electrical, IT, and logistics sectors are also welcome to participate.

At the initiative of the Pécs-Baranya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the regional chambers launched a nationwide survey of wind power supply capacity. The goal is to identify the products, services, and technical capabilities that companies operating in Hungary could contribute to the anticipated investments.

The survey is timely because, in early September, the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority opened a call for proposals for the construction of new wind power capacity and the expansion of existing facilities. According to previous government announcements, the first round of tenders covers at least 700 megawatts of capacity, and the goal is to build a total of an additional 4,000 megawatts of wind power capacity over the next four years. For now, these are national development plans, not investments in Baranya County that have already been awarded.

They’re not just looking for turbine manufacturers

Building a wind farm is a long and complex process that requires the cooperation of numerous businesses, from site surveys and permitting through construction to decades of operation. The supplier survey therefore targets a much broader range of businesses than just the energy companies that manufacture wind turbines.

The following, among others, are eligible to apply:

  • design, permitting, and environmental services providers;
  • geodetic, geological, and geotechnical firms;
  • companies engaged in civil engineering, road construction, and foundation work;
  • concrete, steel structure manufacturing, metalworking, and machinery manufacturing companies;
  • service providers specializing in industrial coatings and corrosion protection;
  • specialists in the electric power industry, grid construction, and substation construction;
  • automation, control systems, information technology, and cybersecurity companies;
  • logistics, specialized transportation, crane, and lifting equipment companies;
  • installation, maintenance, and technical diagnostic service providers;
  • companies that develop drone technology and monitoring solutions;
  • companies specializing in energy storage and system integration;
  • occupational safety, fire safety, waste management, and recycling service providers.

The survey is also open to those who are not currently employed in the wind power industry but who, with the appropriate training, certification, or corporate partnerships, may become qualified for supplier roles.

This could be particularly important for Baranya, as the county is home to numerous companies in the construction, machinery, electrical, engineering, IT, and logistics sectors whose existing expertise can also be leveraged within the wind power value chain.

The Pécs District is listed among the regions with relaxed restrictions

The government has designated 25 districts where it plans to facilitate the construction of wind farms through a faster permitting process. The Pécs district is among them.

According to government information, the administrative processing time for environmental permits in the designated areas may be 30 days, and for building permits, 20 days. However, this streamlining does not mean that wind turbines can be built automatically or anywhere within the district. Investment projects must continue to take into account grid, nature conservation, landscape protection, and national defense requirements; the exemptions do not apply, for example, to Natura 2000 sites and other protected areas.

Regardless of this, the designation of the Pécs district increases the likelihood that wind power development plans will emerge in Baranya in the coming years. However, no specific investment site or investor in Baranya has been announced yet.

A supplier database may be created

In the questionnaire, businesses can describe their activities, products, services, technical capabilities, references, and certifications. They can also indicate their development needs and specify which part of the wind power value chain they would like to be involved in.

The collected data can be used to create a national capacity map and a searchable supplier database. With the consent of the companies, the information can also be incorporated into the MKIK KAPTÁR business partner search system, making it available to future developers, turbine manufacturers, and general contractors.

Filling out the questionnaire does not in itself constitute an automatic supplier contract. However, it does provide an opportunity for businesses in Baranya County to showcase their capabilities as early as the investment planning phase and to identify in a timely manner the developments or certifications they may need to secure future contracts.

The deadline for completing the survey is September 18, 2026. The questionnaire is expected to take 10–15 minutes to complete.
