A major energy infrastructure development program will be implemented in Baranya County in 2026: the E.ON Hungária Group will invest a total of 1.2 billion forints from its own resources to modernize the electricity and natural gas networks. The investments will affect the areas around Pécs, Komló, Siklós, Mohács, and Vajszló, contributing to the operational reliability and long-term development of the county’s energy supply.
The goal of the grid development program is to replace aging power lines, improve the reliability of the power supply, and develop infrastructure capable of meeting future consumer and economic needs. These investments not only make residential energy supply more secure but also ensure a more predictable energy supply for businesses, industrial players, and local governments.
Most of the development projects are taking place in Pécs, where sections of the electricity and natural gas networks are being modernized at a cost of approximately 600 million forints; in addition, street lighting cables will be replaced and new network components will be installed. Given the city’s ongoing development and the emergence of new investments, it is particularly important that the energy supply infrastructure keep pace with growing demand.
Komló and the surrounding area will benefit from electricity grid upgrades worth more than 200 million forints. The goal of these investments is to improve operational reliability and reduce the number of potential grid failures.
In Siklós, the power grid is being modernized at a cost of approximately 100 million forints, while in the Mohács area, a natural gas pipeline reconstruction project worth nearly 48 million forints is underway. On the outskirts of Vajszló, a new gas pressure regulator is being built, with a project cost exceeding 10 million forints.
E.ON operates nearly 5,000 kilometers of electricity grid and approximately 3,200 kilometers of natural gas pipeline in Baranya. The ongoing maintenance and modernization of a system of this size is essential to ensuring a safe and reliable energy supply for residents, businesses, and local governments in the long term.
These investments are also of outstanding importance from an economic development perspective. Adequate energy supply infrastructure is now a fundamental prerequisite for new industrial and service-sector investments, the development of industrial zones, and the competitiveness of businesses. Modern networks help increase production reliability, can reduce the number of operational disruptions, and can also facilitate future capacity expansions.
The ongoing development program clearly demonstrates that the continuous renewal of public utility infrastructure is an indispensable element of the county’s economic development. Although the modernization of energy networks is a less visible investment, it nevertheless plays a decisive role in the long term in the development of communities, the attraction of investment, and the functioning of the local economy.
