Another major urban development project has been completed in Siklós: the area surrounding the Community Center has been revitalized, a new community space has been created, and a modern roundabout has been built at the intersection of Gyűdi út and Felszabadulás utca. Thanks to this investment of nearly 300 million forints, the town has gained a new community space that appeals to people of all ages, while traffic in the downtown area has become safer and more efficient.
The development projects include the project with identification number TOP_PLUSZ-1.2.1-21-BA1-2022-00030, “Implementation of a Comprehensive Program for Community Development and Transportation in the City of Siklós,” as well as under the project with the identification number TOP_PLUSZ-1.2.1-21-BA1-2022-00031, titled “Reconstruction of the Square in Front of the Service Center and Construction of Parking Spaces in the City of Siklós.”
One of the key elements of the project was the complete renovation of the area surrounding the Service Center at 8 Köztársaság Square. A modern public park was created on the east side of the building, which serves as a new community gathering place for the residents of Siklós. The square welcomes visitors with new benches, a shade sail, carefully landscaped green spaces, and a spectacular fountain.
As part of the development, new parking spaces were also created on the west side of the Service Center, which make parking easier and improve access to the services operating in the area.
Another key element of the project was the complete redesign of the intersection of Gyűdi út and Felszabadulás utca. The new, standard-compliant roundabout makes traffic safer, ensures a more even flow of traffic, reduces the risk of accidents, and creates a more predictable traffic environment for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
The project was carried out in cooperation between the Municipality of Siklós and the Baranya County Municipal Office.
The locals also welcomed the results of the development.
“The fountain is the best—it’s my little boy’s favorite,” said a mother who lives in the neighborhood and who, along with her family, had already started using the new community space during the trial period.
Transportation improvements have also been well received in the city.
“We’ve needed a roundabout here for a while now,” said a local resident who regularly drives through the intersection in question.
These developments will help make Siklós an even more livable, well-organized, and sustainable urban environment. The new community space provides a place for people to meet and relax, while the modern transportation infrastructure ensures safety and convenience in everyday life.
The goal of the “Liveable Communities” program is to implement projects in the county’s communities that will improve the quality of life for residents in the long term. In Baranya, as part of this program, public spaces and playgrounds have been renovated, new community spaces have been created, and more modern cycling and pedestrian transportation solutions have been implemented.
