According to the University of Pécs (PTE)’s 2024 report, the institution allocated significant resources to modernizing its clinical and educational environments, energy and real estate developments, as well as priority healthcare programs: the total value of investments coordinated by PTE in 2024 was 8.72 billion forints, of which real estate developments accounted for 5.80 billion forints.
One of the central elements of the healthcare and clinical infrastructure developments scheduled for 2024 is linked to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the PTE Clinical Center. According to the University of Pécs’s report, as part of the “Family-Friendly Obstetrics” development project, the facade of the main Obstetrics building and the Obstetrics Hotel wing will be renovated, the existing building will be remodeled, and several related facilities will be refurbished. From the perspective of daily patient care, these interventions mean that the more modern building stock can provide better patient comfort, more efficient operation, and spaces better suited to modern care processes—in other words, the “visible” side of care (environment, accessibility, infrastructure) will come closer to professional standards.
Closely linked to developments in the field of obstetrics are the National Center for Reproductive Medicine Research (NRMK) and the strengthening of reproductive care: according to a report from the PTE Faculty of Medicine, the center was handed over in 2023, and the modernization of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology took place simultaneously; the investment, including equipment procurement, was carried out using approximately 2.8 billion forints in domestic funding. In the University of Pécs’s 2024 investment list, developments related to the NRMK continue to feature among the largest items.
The report shows that the University of Pécs’s development efforts are not limited to individual buildings: in 2024, several projects related to healthcare operations were underway, and the expansion of the clinical system was also reflected in the financial data. According to the document, as part of the hospital integration process, the operations of Siklós Hospital and the Harkány Thermal Rehabilitation Hospital became part of the Clinical Center in 2024, which significantly increased PTE’s balance sheet. This process can be understood at the regional level: in connection with the central healthcare system in Pécs, there is an increase in patient pathway organization, capacity, and scope for professional collaboration, pointing toward a stronger “regional medical hub.”
