The renovation of the parking lot behind Komlóverzum in Komló has reached a spectacular stage: asphalting is already underway in the area, and the previously unorganized parking lot and the connecting access road are being completely renovated. The project is being carried out with funding from the Competitive Districts Program and will directly improve access to downtown institutions, services, and visitor attractions.
The city’s development package does not stop there. According to Komló’s official project list, parking improvements will also be carried out in the immediate vicinity of the Mini-Zoo, for which the municipality has received a non-repayable grant of 52,999,999 forints under the Competitive Districts Program. The project is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2026, and is expected to be completed by December 31, 2026.
According to the plans, the affected section of road, the sidewalks, and public space features in the vicinity of the Mini-Zoo will be renovated, and approximately fifty parking spaces will be made available, including accessible spaces. As part of the development, the area’s street lighting will also be modernized.
These investments are important because Komlóverzum and the Mini-Zoo have recently become major community and tourist destinations in the city. However, the growing number of visitors has placed an increasing strain on existing parking lots and the surrounding streets. The developments currently underway and in the planning stages provide a practical solution to this problem: they will create more orderly traffic, safer pedestrian routes, and a more welcoming environment for visitors.
From an economic development perspective, these are not spectacular large-scale investments, but rather very tangible improvements that enhance the city’s day-to-day functioning. Improved accessibility makes downtown services more accessible, boosts family and leisure tourism, and encourages visitors to spend more time in Komló.
The renovation of the parking lot behind Komlóverzum is nearing completion, and the development of the area surrounding the Mini-Zoo could be the next important step in making Komló a more orderly, comfortable, and attractive urban environment for both locals and visitors.
