On September 8, 2025, the final in-person workshop of the “Resilient Borders – Enhancing Flood and Drought Resilience Along the River Drava” project took place in Pécs, at the headquarters of the Baranya County Government. The purpose of the event was for organizations and experts from the Hungarian-Croatian border region to jointly finalize the guidelines for the cross-border Action Plan along the Drava River.

What is the Action Plan about?

The document currently being drafted provides a comprehensive response to the most serious water management and climate challenges facing the Drava region. The focus is on managing flood, inland water, and drought risks, as well as strengthening institutional cooperation on both the Hungarian and Croatian sides.

Key points:

  • Nature-based solutions for protecting ecosystems and increasing water retention.
  • Cross-border cooperation in crisis management and data sharing.
  • Capacity building for professionals and local communities.
  • Innovative technologies to enhance monitoring and forecasting.

A broad-based partnership

The project is supported by the AEBR and the MOT. Participants in the project include the Baranya County Council, the Verőce-Drávamente County, the Pannon European Territorial Association and CESCI as technical partners, as well as experts from Hungarian and Croatian water management and disaster prevention organizations.

Next milestone: closing conference in Pécs

This workshop marks the start of the project’s final phase: participants have begun preparations for the closing conference, which will take place on September 22, 2025, in Pécs. The results of the Action Plan and opportunities for further collaboration will be presented there.
