49 events, 25 collaborating partners, 30 venues—coordinated by the Pécs-Baranya Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The DesignPécs series of events will be held for the twelfth time between October 8 and 18. Organized jointly by the Pécs-Baranya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, its partner institutions, and local creative industry professionals, this year’s event places special emphasis on the Vasarely commemorative year.
For more than a decade, DesignPécs has served as a meeting point for design, art, business, and the urban community. Its goal is to offer local artists, designers, creative industry professionals, and businesses opportunities to showcase their work and build connections, while also bringing the diverse world of design closer to the general public.
This year’s DesignPécs literally opens the doors to Pécs’s creative workshops. Visitors can take a peek behind the scenes at venues that are integral to Pécs’s creative identity: including an organ-building workshop, Pécs’s glove-making industry, an animation studio, a community print shop, and even a lesser-known side of the Kodály Center. In addition to the city’s Backstage Tours, the program also features workshop visits, exhibitions, professional and artistic events, as well as special city walks.
The official opening of the series of events will be the opening of the “Order and Chaos” exhibition at the Nádor Gallery on October 8 at 6:00 p.m.
One of the key sources of inspiration for this year’s event is the Vasarely commemorative year. Victor Vasarely’s ties to Pécs and his visual legacy serve as a starting point that simultaneously connects the city’s artistic traditions with contemporary design thinking. At the same time, the DesignPécs programs showcase a broader interpretation of design: from object creation and the visual arts, through textiles, graphic design, and media art, all the way to shaping the urban environment.
The City of Pécs, cultural and educational institutions, artists, workshops, and creative businesses are joining this series of events. The common message of the diverse programs is that design is not merely an aesthetic issue: it is about innovation, problem-solving, value creation, and a way of thinking that shapes our environment from both an economic and a community perspective.
DesignPécs therefore not only showcases the city’s creative energy but also builds connections: between creators and businesses, institutions and the public, and tradition and contemporary thinking.
The October program series offers visitors the opportunity to discover Pécs from a new perspective, meet the people who shape the city’s visual and creative culture day in and day out, and experience firsthand how design weaves its way through Pécs.
